Description

The Voskevaz Karasi Collection contains some of Armenia’s best and most innovative wines. Combining ancient and modern, the Karasi Collection wines are whole-cluster fermented in massive clay amphora (Karasi) then aged in Artsakh oak barrels. This technique produces highly aromatic and complex wines.

The Karasi Collection Areni is made from grapes harvested from 120 year-old vines situated at 5,250 feet above sea level in the Vayots Dzor provence. Fermented in huge amphora with minimal intervention, the wine gets 12 months aging in Caucasian oak before bottling.

The third vintage of this amazing wine, the 2016 has a medium red color, with bright cherry notes and vanilla oak red on the nose. More subtle notes of minerals and herbs emerge as the wine opens up. Like the previous vintages, the wine carries an amazing amount of complexity on a relatively light frame.

The 2016 was awarded a Gold Medal at the Spring 2020 Mundus Vini International Wine Awards and another Gold Medal at the 2019 Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition.

In order not to overwhelm the nuances of this great wine, best to serve with poultry or veal dishes.
