Edward “Ed” Messikian, 90, of East Hartford, loving husband of 61 years of Cynthia “Cindy” (Kasparian) Messikian, peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Hartford Hospital after a long illness. Born in New York City, NY on February 10, 1935, a son of the late Harry and Adrine (Hekemian) Messikian, he had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 64 years. Ed was a graduate of White Plains High School in White Plains, NY, class of 1955. He went on to earn his BS degree in mechanical engineering from Steven’s Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ and later on his MBA degree from Western New England College in Springfield, MA. Prior to his retirement Ed was employed for over 30 years in the engineering department at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford.
A gentleman of strong faith, Ed was an active, faithful member of St. George Armenian Church in Hartford where he was a former director of St. George annual golf tournament and had served on the parish council. Ed played tennis and was a member of Glenbrook Swim & Tennis Club in East Hartford. He always looked forward to spending his winters down in North Palm Beach, FL as a “snowbird” and visiting Cape Cod, MA in the summer with his wife and family. A man who could communicate with anyone, Ed would often “hold court” at the condo swimming pool with his friends and solve the words problems.
One of Ed’s passions in life was his love for cars, especially Jaguars. He loved driving his 1964 Jaguar XKE and was a long-time member of the Jag Club of Southern New England. He especially enjoyed attending various car shows both in Connecticut and Florida, enjoying the camaraderie of his friends. Ed got great joy playing golf, tennis, and squash and visiting the casinos. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. Most of all, Ed will be remembered as an outgoing individual who was a devoted and caring husband, father and brother-in-law. A New Yorker at heart, he lived life as in the words of his favorite crooner, “I did it my way.”
Along with his beloved wife Cindy, Ed is survived by his son, Jeffrey Edward Messikian and his daughter, Natalie S. Messikian both of East Hartford, with whom he made his home; his brother-in-law, John V. Kasparian of East Hartford; many dear friends and fellow church members.
Funeral service will be Tuesday (November 25, 2025) at 11 am at St. George Armenian Church, 22 White Street, Hartford with Rev. Voski Galstyan officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Ed’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday morning from 10 – 11 am at the church. Everyone who is attending is cordially asked to go directly to the church on Tuesday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Edward’s name may be made to St. George Armenian Church, 22 White Street, Hartford, CT 06114. The D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
